When Maison Margiela Fragrances invited me to hang out with them & a curated group of girls at The Surfrider Hotel in Malibu for a couple days, I was so honored. I’ve been a fan of their scents (Beach Walk is one of my go-to’s) and super chic packaging for a while and was excited to get to know the brand more on a deeper level.
I fell in love with Surfrider’s space immediately upon check-in. The hotel felt like a friend’s beach house - one that was perfectly curated with the coolest, chicest furniture and decor but cozy enough to make you feel 100% at ease. Every corner was begging to be Instagrammed and each table was lit with Margiela’s Beach Walk candle, filling the rooms with notes of bergamot, coconut milk, lemon, pink pepper, and musk.
The evening started and ended on the hotel’s rooftop where everyone invited by the brand got to meet, mingle and get to know one another. I was impressed by how well-curated the group was. It’s always refreshing when these types of events are made up of diverse women who all individually feel on-brand, rather than one purely based on number of followers.
The next morning started with breakfast on the rooftop, which was followed by a beach clean-up with the Surfrider Foundation, an organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment our our beaches by reducing the harmful impacts of plastic pollution. Before getting a start on cleaning up the coast, we learned about the harsh realities and consequences of society’s dependence on single-use plastics. While they are not meant to pollute the ocean or harm the planet, 13 million tons of plastic still enter the ocean each year. This goes to show that the real solution to plastic pollution starts with us at the source. Learn more here.
Thankful for brands like Maison Margiela, Boyish Jeans & Summer Fridays who do their part in making this world a better place. I hope more brands catch on and realize that while it may look “cool” to host events where everyone just takes photos and tequila shots, it’s actually cooler to bring together quality people who can do good and create positive change. And btw, events can have tequila and social good. That’s cool, too.
After the beach clean-up, we all headed over to Malibu Farm for lunch. Everyone then split up to do their own thing - whether it was to hike, visit the Getty Villa as a group, or have free / beach time.
To end the night, we all dressed up and came back together for dinner at Nobu. Everything was sooo delicious and it was fun getting to know new people at the table. The highlight of the night? When dessert came on a huge platter in the form of cakes, souffles, ice cream and more and was gone in under 5 minutes. Our table looked around and saw that the others had barely touched their dessert. Ben then got up from his chair, walked over to another table, asked them if they were going to eat their dessert and came back with a brand new platter that we ended up finishing, too.
Thank you again, Maison Margiela Fragrances. I loved you before, but love you even more for now for your ability to curate a diverse group of amazing women to do some good for the world.
